Winter

Winter is my favorite season.  It’s beautiful.  The world is still and quiet, but most of all cold.  The air brings on floods of nostalgia and most of my best memories in the whole world.

*disclaimer, winter does not look like this in Texas. Ever.

I can’t explain it really.  When the first bit of cold sets in each year I just get excited.  Something triggers in my brain and makes me happy.  The thing is, that even on my worst days when I’m upset it’s still nice to walk outside to the cold. Feels like the world is sad with you.  So it’s the perfect weather to fit my mood. Call me emo but whatever.

All the best things happen in winter, and the worst in summer.  I rarely miss swimming and beaches, etc.  (In fact a quirky thing about me is I love the beach when it’s cold out).  I love everything when it’s cold outside.

Hoodies and hats and toe socks and if a miracle happens, one night of snow. (I live in Texas).  Someday I’ll live in a winter wonderland, but for now I maaaaaybe 3 months a year of slightly cooler than normal weather.

Sincerely,

It’s going to be a LONG summer this year.

I hate shoes

It’s taken me about 20 years to realize this, but I hate shoes.

It started when I was a kid I guess.  I always hated shoe shopping because I could never find the shoes I wanted in the right size.

Shoes suck. If they are girly shoes that generally means they’re going to hurt your feet.  If they’re tennis shoes my feet get claustrophobic, there’s no room in there! Plus, they take so long to put on.  If you can’t get them on your feet, in an easy 5 seconds or less, it’s not worth it to me.

At a certain point in my life, I just became a flip flop person.  Call it tacky, or whatever you like but life doesn’t slow down for me to stop and spend 10 minutes putting real shoes on. (I tend to take forever doing things in general).

Even flip flops suck, because they wear down easily, and aren’t always cute.

All this being said, I do love one type of close toed shoe.  Converse. (Known to me growing up as Chuck Taylor’s)  If I have to wear close toed shoes, I have the coolest pair of PURPLE converse ever.  They are actually covered in mud now because I have a class which entails stomping around in the woods and my friend and I got stuck on the wrong side of a bog/swamp. yeahhhhh fun times.

Sincerely,

The BEST shoes are NO shoes.

Herpetology

So I tackled the paper with style and finished Monday morning at around 4:00am.  Done. Success. Great.

Now there’s Herpetology Lab. The exam is tomorrow and for this particular exam we have to know the Class, Order, Suborder, Family, Subfamily and Genus species of 68 different specimens (i.e. Dead snakes)

We’ve already covered, Caecilians, Frogs, Toads, Salamanders, Lizards, Turtles and Crocodilians, now all that’s left are the Snakes and Amphisbaenians.

(Caecilians are strange amphibian creatures with no limbs that are usually fossorial-which means lives underground, and Amphisbaenians are strange, also limbless lizard like creatures that also usually live underground) *Just in case you were wondering.* A few months ago I’d never heard of them either.

Then the Herpetology Lecture exam is Wednesday. Fun. I need an A in the this class. I LOVE reptiles, but jeez I’m pressed for time here.

Sincerely,

Wish me luck dear friends!

Pegasus

Clash of the titans has given me a new found love of Pegasus.  A winged horse has to be one of the coolest things ever imagined.  Also, I think the one in the movie was really detailed. To me, it looked so real and I loved it.

Look even Sam Worthington thinks so.

Sincerely,

Sam’s performance was great by the way, as usual/always

Killer Whales and My Weekend

I ADORE Killer Whales with all my heart.  They are beautiful magnificent creatures and I’m in awe of them.  This may or may not be caused by the movie Free Willy, but I’m ok with that.

The problem here is that I have to write a 20 page paper over them.  Killer Whales=Epic WIN, 20 page paper= me trapped in my room all weekend feeling like I’m locked in tower.  Hopefully I’ll finish sooner rather than later.

Sincerely,

I’ve never even seen a 20 page paper how am I supposed to write one?

Sam Worthington

Sam Worthington. Newest obsession.

Some people are annoyed by his apparently flawed American accent (he’s Austrailian), or don’t care for his acting skills, but I recently watched Avatar again on a whim and became quite enamored with him.

I find him really attractive but also quite humble and down to earth.  As if Hollywood hasn’t scarred him with arrogance quite yet.  I love it.   He still seems to maintain this every day guy attitude.

About Clash of the Titans: “Some movies you do because they’re a hell of a lot of fun. That’s what this one was. Me in a skirt with a rubber sword, killing monsters. It ain’t that hard. That’s a good day at the office.”-Sam Worthington

I still need to see some of his other movies, but I hope he continues to have a successful career.

Introductions

I’m not entirely sure what this blog will be focused on, but I figured at the very least I should tell everyone a little bit about myself.

I’m a student at Texas A&M University and if everything goes according to plan I’ll be graduating in May of 2012. I’m majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Science and I plan getting a job as a zookeeper after I graduate.

What? a Zookeeper? You may think this is a lame career choice especially after going through the trouble of obtaining a bachelor’s degree.  You would not be alone I’m sure, but I know secretly you’re at least a little bit jealous. It’s the one thing I’m most passionate about in the whole world and I couldn’t dream of being happy doing anything else.

So to get this out of the way, here’s a short list of things I’m a fan of in no particular order: Lord of the Rings, fantasy genre in general, books, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, sappy love movies like “Ever After”, Herpetology aka the study of reptiles, Harry Potter, animated movies, Winnie the Pooh, The Chronicles of Narnia, Pocahontas, the color purple, The TV show SCRUBS, and you get the point. I don’t wanna give everything away all at once, or bore you with an even longer list of things so I’ll leave it at that for now.

I also love watching very low quality, crappy, no good kids movies with my best friend Brandi at random points of the night around 3 am.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my blog whatever it happens to end up being about.

Sincerely,

Melanie
